A first-hand view of life on Madeline Island
The Madeline Island Historical Preservation Association (MIHPA) is a non-profit organization supported by volunteers and donations. Our mission is to protect, preserve, interpret and increase public awareness of the cultural, traditional and architectural history of Madeline Island.
Come and experience a first-hand view of early life on Madeline Island at MIHPA's Heritage Center located at Colonel Woods Avenue, a half mile east of the Museum. At the Center the island's story is told through the historical village and Veterans' Honor Garden maintained by the organization.
The Heritage Center consists of four buildings moved from their original sites to the historical village. The buildings, with their contents, reflect life on the island from late 19th to early 20th century. Among the furnished buildings you will find a one-room school house, parsonage and the Angus House (or cheese shop). Added in 2018 is a 130 year old log building, a former chicken coop, that was part of the old Cadotte farm.
The MIHPA Heritage Center provides a great place to imagine life on the Island during earlier times. Come and discover a part of our past.
